Winter holidays – a time of miracles
Children await miracles and gifts, while adults look forward to a chance to relax and spend time with loved
ones. The most important winter holiday in Russia is Christmas. Traditionally, this day is associated with
family values, warmth, reconciliation, and faith in miracles.
Every year, the Christmas fairy tale comes to
life in the city of Shuya in the Ivanovo region.

Installations from the artists of the After the Icon project explore contemporary Christian art, inviting
viewers to consider how traditional religious imagery can be reimagined through new art forms and
technologies.

“Promenade Theater"

Promenade Theater invites you to an unusual immersive tour of the historical center of Shuya. You will
hear the history and see it with your own eyes - the pages of the past will come to life in mini-
performances. Famous in the history of Russia, interesting facts about Shuya and its inhabitants, ancient
traditions and the Christmas holiday! Intertwining the past and the present - the route of the Promenade
Theater will pass through old mansions, museums and houses significant for Shuya.
This year the Russian Christmas Festival warms us with a wonderful novelty - a collection of Christmas
tales written by the winners of the creative competition!
The book “The Miracle of Christmas: children's tales”
“Christmas Lectionary”
A Christmas lectorium designed for listeners with different levels of church attendance. Lectures, talks,
musical lectures. Thanks to musical compositions the audience will plunge into the past, learn how our
ancestors celebrated holidays. There will also be excerpts of biblical stories.
Christmas program at the House of Culture
Christmas program of performances by Shuya collectives, a word about God of the Shuya Diocese. This
year 2 headliners of the festival will give charity concerts:

Millions of lights, the smell of fresh baked goods, the ringing of bells, church singing, decorated Christmas
trees, performances and, of course, faith in a light miracle - hundreds of guests come here every year for
all this. For a complete immersion into the magical world of winter, we have compiled a checklist that will
help you navigate the festival and not miss anything.

The three wise men

The figures of the Magi, who came to worship the Savior and brought Him gifts (gold, frankincense, and
myrrh). Although, according to the Gospel, the Magi came to the house, not to the cave (Matthew 2:11),
they are often presented as a part of the nativity scene.
The Holy Family

Three-dimensional figures of the Holy Child Jesus, the Blessed Virgin Mary and the righteous Joseph.
The Christ Child is presented lying in the manger or in the arms of the seated Mother of God. Sometimes
all the figures of the Holy Family are replaced by the icon of the Nativity.
The Angel

The angel announced the birth of the Savior to the shepherds.
The Ox and the Donkey

The figures of the animals that, according to the Sacred tradition, were in the cave at the time of the
Savior's birth, and then warmed Him with their breath.
The Star of Bethlehem

Celestial phenomenon, so called by the Magi, according to the Gospel of Matthew. When they saw it at
sunrise and decided that the "king of the Jews" had been born, they came to Jerusalem to worship Him.
They did not find what they were looking for and went to Bethlehem of Judea, where the star showed
them the place where they saw the Holy Family.

Th figures of those shepherds who came to the cave to worship the Savior. Typically, one of the

shpherds is depicted with a lamb on his shoulders or in his arms. The lamb in this case is a symbol of

Chist as the Lamb of God.
